Summer Business Academy Prepares Future Entrepreneurs

More than 1.1 million small businesses call New Jersey home and employ nearly half of the state’s private workforce, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

With thousands of news businesses opening annually in the state, the value of learning about entrepreneurship also continues to grow.

��鶹��Ƶ’s Summer Entrepreneurship and Business Academy (SEBA) is benefiting from that trend as the weeklong residential camp from July 12 to 18 hosted 22 high schoolers from across the state. The academy, held at the Atlantic City campus, divided the students into teams tasked with creating a business plan for a new venture. The teams then presented their plans to a panel of judges at the end of the week.

��鶹��Ƶ faculty members advised the teams as they took seminars about marketing, branding, property law and artificial intelligence. The students also took field trips to visit area small businesses, some run by ��鶹��Ƶ alumni.

“We work very hard to make the overall educational experience for the students more immersive so that they can relate the information and skills they learn in the classroom to the world of business,” said SEBA Program Director Tara Marsh.

Summer Academy Helps EOF Students Adjust to College Life

For many incoming students, the transition to college can feel overwhelming. ��鶹��Ƶ University’s Educational Opportunity Fund (EOF) Summer Academy helps turn some of that uncertainty into confidence by giving students the tools, support and community they need before their first semester begins.

The four-week residential program prepares incoming EOF scholars academically, socially and personally, creating a strong foundation for long-term success. This year’s class features 85 students, with 59 living in Galloway and 26 in Atlantic City, said Ana Patricia DeNise, the director of ��鶹��Ƶ’s EOF program.

“The EOF Summer Academy reflects ��鶹��Ƶ’s commitment to expanding educational opportunity and student success. By investing in students before classes begin, the university helps improve retention, foster leadership, and create an inclusive campus community where every student has the opportunity to flourish,” DeNise said, noting that last year’s first-year cohort had a second-semester retention rate of 95%.

��鶹��Ƶ Recognized Again for Transfer-Friendly Student Policies

For the fifth year in a row, ��鶹��Ƶ has been named to the Transfer Honor Roll by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society for its transfer-friendly policies for community college students.

The university is one of 275 four-year colleges and universities that have demonstrated exceptional success in creating pathways that help community college transfer students earn bachelor’s degrees.

“We work closely with our community college partners to ensure students experience a seamless transition, maximize the credits they’ve earned, and have the support they need to thrive from day one through graduation,” said Moses V. Goldmon, ��鶹��Ƶ’s vice president for Enrollment Management. “This recognition affirms that our approach is intentional, student-centered and built to remove barriers while expanding opportunity.”

The Transfer Honor Roll recognizes the top-performing colleges and universities that complete the annual PTK Connect institutional profile. According to the society, 1,117 institutions submitted the profile this year.

Nature enthusiasts on July 17 had the chance to explore the 1.1-million-acre Pinelands National Reserve by foot, on kayaks and from listening to botanists, wildlife biologists, Lenape elders and other experts at the Pinelands Summer Short Course, offered by ��鶹��Ƶ and the New Jersey Pinelands Commission.

Field trips took participants hiking on the 1808 Trail through Wharton State Forest and paddling on Batsto Lake, where cedar waxwings sang and damselflies swarmed overhead.

Inside the classrooms at ��鶹��Ƶ Kramer Hall in Hammonton, participants met wild creatures like a pine snake and a red-tailed hawk from Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge while learning about the biodiversity of the different Pinelands habitats.

��鶹��Ƶ Qualifies for IWLCA Academic Honors

The women's lacrosse team and seven players for academic recognition from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA). The Ospreys earned acknowledgment as an IWLCA Academic Honor Squad by registering a team grade point average of 3.20 or higher for the 2025-26 academic year.

On the field, ��鶹��Ƶ went 11-6 this spring for the fourth straight season with at least 11 victories under the direction of head coach Denise Roessler.

Graduate student Brianna Robinson earned the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll for the third consecutive season, while seniors Isabella Marinello, Gina Marotta and Julia Gibsonqualified for the second straight year.

Senior Jordan Czaczkowski and juniorsIsabella Cote and Kasey O'Neill rounded out the group with their first IWLCA Academic Honor Roll spots.

The criteria for the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll were that student-athletes must be a junior, senior or graduate student with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Track & Field Teams Net USTFCCCA Academic Awards

The men's and women's track & field teams All-Academic Team honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2026 season. The requirement was a cumulative team grade point average of 3.10 or higher.

The women's team, coached by Claire Incantalupo, produced a 3.47 team grade point average and qualified for the 15th consecutive year. The men's squad, coached by Jayson Resch, compiled a 3.22 team GPA and made the list for the 14th time in the past 15 years.

Ten Ospreys met the criteria of a 3.30 or higher cumulative GPA and either a top 50 national ranking in an individual event or top 35 national ranking in a relay that was needed for USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete status.

Senior Kayla Kass topped the list with a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete nod for the fourth consecutive year. Women's track & field teammates Elaina Styer, a junior, and senior Maddy Valasek qualified for the second straight time.

Senior Eva Morrison, sophomores Jessica Bruther and Marlie DiPalma amassed USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete laurels for the first time.

The trio was joined by fellow first-time honorees Joie Buxton, Sophia Cornell and Madison Pratt from the women's team plus Bryant Nelson from the men's team. All four were freshmen in 2025-26.

��鶹��Ƶ is inviting students, alumni, current employees and retirees to submit original compositions for consideration as the university’s new alma mater.

The Alma Mater Refresh offers the university community an opportunity to help shape a musical tradition that reflects ��鶹��Ƶ’s spirit, energy and vision for the future.

Submissions are due by Sept. 16, 2026. The top three entries will be performed on campus during University Weekend, held Oct. 9-11, 2026.
